Hi Florence, I am fairly certain your Father (Errol Gittens)traveled, unaccompanied it appears, from Barbados to New York in April1903 on his way to be educated in Boston. The ships list shows him asage 11, but he was actually 12. I would guess be would have been tooyoung for Cambridge which I assume is a university level institution. He may have went to Cambridge later in his life and I try to followthat up. I am assuming your grandfather Fenwick must have beenrelatively wealthy to send Errol off to school in this manner?? Anyfurther information on Fenwick that you can share, occupation, othermisc bits and pieces? A couple of other question of you... I found anapplication for medals for a Carlton Wyndham Gittens who was a Lieutin the RAMC who served in Mesoptamia starting 24 Aug 1916. Carltonwould have been 32 in 1916. I believe RAMC is the Royal Army MedicalCorps, but I am not sure. Is there any family lore which mightindicate that Carlton served in WWI? I also found a death record fora Wyndham Gittens in Pinellas, Florida dated June 1967, his race waslisted as white. That fact that he was white and having a very uniquename makes me wonder if this might be Carlton. The date also closelyfits the date of death you supplied in your information. Any otherfamily lore that might support Clayton's living and dieing in Florida? Thanks for the help Cliff - Show quoted text - Reply Forward FEWGittens to me show details Dec 6 (2 days ago) Reply Hi Cliff Manythanks. Okay, you may be right about Boston. Errol did not go tothe university in Cambridge, just was in Cambridge, UK. He had onlyone functional eye, the other was very small and was useless. Thiswas congenital. I think Fenwick was in the mercantile trade (importsand exports of goods) along with a fellow named Croney. Carlton was adoctor, and would have served in WWI. He later practiced in Londonand then moved to North Berwick, Scotland on retirement where he diedin late Dec 1962/early Jan 1963. RAMC is the Royal Army MedicalCorps. Another brother lived in Florida, I believe, and was in thefilm industry, I think. There was a sister who lived in Barbados and?? moved to the USA. She married a Longfield Smith I think. Whatwas the full name of the Wyndham Gittens that died in Florida in June1967? Regards Florence
