CLIFTON SPRINGS– Bernice J. (Pollot) Barnes, age 93, died peacefully on Sunday (September 9, 2018) at Clifton Springs Nursing Home.
Friends may call on Wednesday (Sept. 12) from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Cheney Funeral Home 70 Main Street Phelps. Funeral services will follow at 3pm with Rev. Adrian Tierson officiating. Burial will be in Oaklawn Cemetery.
It is requested that donations be made to Clifton Springs Nursing Home Activities Department 2 Coulter Road Clifton Springs, NY 14432 or 435 E. Henrietta Road Rochester, New York 14620.
Bernice was born on June 2, 1925 in Phelps, NY the daughter of the late Newton and Lena Gittens Backus. She was a lifelong resident of Phelps. She retired from the Newark State School where she worked in housekeeping. She and her husband owned Barnzy's Country Store at the Windmill for many years. Bernice loved birds and flowers. Most important was her family.
She is survived by her husband, Charles Barnes of Clifton Springs; children Mary (Orville) VanDuser of Phelps, Frances Deppen of Newark, Allen (Marie) Pollot of Pittsford, Jean (Peter) Empson of Phelps; grandchildren Daniel, Joan, Allison, Beth, Kasey, Cory and Erin; three great-grandchildren; two brothers Carl (Angela) Backus of Fairville, Roy (Neva) Backus of Phelps; brother-in-law, Stephen Csete of Clifton Springs; several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her brothers Lester, Donald and Claude Backus; sister, Irene Csete. |
