• His Will, signed on 11 Feb 1742, was recorded on 5 Jul 1743 in Vol RB 6/34, p.
251, Barbados Wills Record Books. It names:
Wife: Jane (Gittens) Archer [MRIN 42], sole legatee and executrix.
Brothers-in-law: John Gittens; Matthew Gittens, as "Friends in Trust" to advise
and direct Jane.
Witnesses: Henry Barlow; Francis Stough.
[Note: The GITTENS and ARCHER surnames are intermixed in St. Phillip
Parish throughout the family history. However, the later marriage of Grenada
(or Grenada) Gittens to Christian Archer is recorded as between "Free Colored
