    • An assumption was made based on circumstantial evidence that the William Gittens who appeared in the family of John K Gittens in both the 1850 and 1860 US Federal Census and the William Gittens who appeared in the 1880 US Federal Census, without any indication of parents, are in fact the same person.

      The birth dates and locations of each William were the same as well as the birth locations of their parents. Also one William appeared in the 1850 and 1860 census and the other William in the 1880 census.
