    • (Research):Elizabeth's will mentions her relation Mehetabel Sealy wife of Thomas Sealy. I found this couple in the 1841 and 1851 English census in Clifton, and they definately were from Barbados. Mehetabel Sealy's age fits the Baptism record noted below, so fairly certain these are the Smith's mentioned in Elizabeth's will. But the "Relation" connection is a bit of a mystery.

      Mehetabel Smith d. of Jno & Mary Smith bap. Sep 1776, St. Phillip
      Siblings of Mehetabel Smith:
      Female Smith bap. Jun 1772, St. Phillip d. Jno. Smith & Mary [This could be Elizabeth Gittens nee Smith, should look for a marriage Elizabeth Smith and a Gittens. I looked but could not find one.]
      Alice Ann Smith bap. Oct 1776 St. Phillip, d. of John Smith & Mary (this is likely not a sibling as in the same year as Mehetabel and the fathers name is shown differently, John in place of Jno). CCG

      I think I have found another reference to this Elizabeth Gittens on the Tombstones.bb web site. The site makes the following reference in the Tombstones section:
      GITTENS, ELIZABETH
      Elizabeth Gittens, died 29 Oct. 1847 aged 80 years

      GITTENS, ELIZABETH

      Birth: 1767-- Death: 1847-Oct-29

      Notes: According to Karl Watson, the inscriptions as aboveIn 'G' vault.According to family tree direct descendant of Quaker Gittens.

      The dates fit in that Elizabeth's will was written 2 Feb 1847; The Elizabeth buried at the Cliff Quaker BG died 29 Oct 1847; Elizabeth's will was given 6 may 1848.

      The Quaker fact sort of fits in that there is little info on Elizabeth in the baptismal and baptism records. Although these dates are very late in the active Quaker timeline. I had thought that by the mid 1700's Quakerism had just about ended in Barbados, but I suppose there were those who held the faith longer.

      I am curious about the reference to the family tree of direct descendants of Quaker Gittens. I think I will send an e-mail to Mary who operates the Tombstones.bb site and make an inquiry.

      I will be amending my database record for Elizabeth Gittens to include the burial information, again with appropriate notes, as there is no real direct evidence to support the conclusion..
